What It Means to Gamble Responsibly
Safe gambling is a shared responsibility. The operator has to create the right conditions, while players watch how their own gambling develops so that they catch the first signs of trouble in good time.
What exactly an operator must provide is set out in §§ 13 to 16 of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. Every operator, Tipsport.net a.s. included, has to offer players:
- a way to restrict their play with money and time limits,
- clear information about the risks and about self-exclusion,
- measures that protect minors.
The whole approach has one aim: play should stay conscious and controlled, the risks of excessive gambling should be kept as low as possible, and addiction should not develop at all.
Typical Symptoms of Problem Gambling
Gambling can get out of hand without the player noticing straight away. Typical symptoms include:
- restlessness, irritability or anxiety at times when gambling is not possible,
- hiding gambling from a partner, family or friends,
- chasing losses, that is, trying to win back money already lost,
- borrowing to gamble and repeatedly going over set limits,
- gambling ever more often or for ever larger sums,
- putting off work, study and family duties,
- carrying on despite debt or disputes,
- a worse mental or physical state connected with gambling.
If you or the people close to you recognise yourselves in any of these points, it is time to use the preventive tools or ask for professional help.
How Tipsport Vegas Helps You Restrict Your Gambling
Zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. expects players to have a way of limiting their gambling. At Tipsport Vegas, this is served by a set of tools in the user account that all registered players can use.
A financial ceiling
You restrict deposits with a limit that applies per day, week or month: once it is used up, the next deposit can only be made in the new period. Separately, you can set a bet and loss limit, that is, a maximum value of bets or net loss for a selected period. Anyone who hits it cannot place another bet.
Watching the time
A time limit sets how much time per day or week you may spend gambling. The reality check appears at regular intervals with information on how long play has lasted.
Stepping away from play
A time-out means temporary exclusion for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. During it you cannot log in or take part in games; once the period has passed, the account returns to service.
Changing the settings
You set, lower or cancel limits in the account. If you want to raise them, the change happens only after a protection period of at least 24 hours.
Quick Exclusion for 48 Hours
For moments when gambling needs to stop at once, there is the panic button. Under § 16bb of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb., gambling operators must offer it from 1 July 2024.
- You activate the button directly in the user interface; it is available to all registered players.
- The system excludes you instantly and automatically from all the operator's online platforms.
- For the following 48 hours you will not take part in any gambling.
- Along with this, you will be offered the chance to file an application for entry into the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO).
Requesting Exclusion under § 16 and § 16b
A player who no longer wants to gamble does not have to rely on willpower alone. § 16 and § 16b of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. give them the right to ask the operator to exclude them from gambling, for a certain period or for good.
The request can be made in the user account or through the gambling operator. If the player is added to the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO), the exclusion applies across all operators in the Czech Republic. Deletion from the register only becomes possible after one year.
The Register of Excluded Persons in Practice
The Ministry of Finance (Ministerstvo financí ČR) keeps the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO) under zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. It enters two kinds of people: those who have asked for exclusion, and those excluded directly by law. The latter include, for example, people facing enforcement or insolvency proceedings and recipients of certain benefits.
An application for entry can be filed directly in the user account with the gambling operator, by confirming the request after activating the panic button, via the ministry's data box, or in person at a Czech POINT branch. Once entered, a player cannot take part in gambling with any licensed operator in the Czech Republic.
Verifying Players' Age and Identity
- In the Czech Republic, gambling is permitted only from the age of 18, as laid down by zákon č. 186/2016 Sb.
- The operator must verify the age and identity of each player, for example through BankID or another verification method.
- Checks happen when a player registers and once more when they cash out winnings, because gambling by minors is strictly forbidden.
Test: Is Your Gambling Still Under Control?
An honest answer to the following questions will help you gauge where you stand with gambling. They are adapted from the PGSI (Problem Gambling Severity Index).
- Does your gambling spend exceed the amount you planned?
- Do you sense that it would be good to restrict your gambling?
- Do you reproach yourself for gambling?
- Do you play again so that lost money comes back to you?
- Do you neglect your commitments or the people around you because of gambling?
- Have those around you hinted that you have a gambling problem?
- Have you taken out a loan for gambling?
If you said yes several times, reaching for the prevention tools or talking to a specialist makes sense.
Keep in mind that the result is only a guide and will not replace a professional diagnosis.
